“St. Bridget” from Mame
performed by Jane Connell
I’m posting this because:
1. This might actually be my favorite song in the show
2. youregonnalovetomorrow has been taunting me with Debbie Gravitte Shapiro Mame tracks
3. I just found some old documents from when I worked as an ASM on a “semi-staged concert reading” at Barrington Stage Company…starring Sandy Duncan. She was wonderful and I will never say a bad word about her.
The first is a document titled “Mame Facts”. I remember being asked to read the novel and the original play and find any “factual information” about Mame Dennis. I don’t know if this is all I found or all that made it into this version of the document.

2nd is a snippet of the script, which the PSM and I retyped so that all of Mame’s lines were jumbo sized. I chose this particular section of the script because it contains the business about Mame not knowing what the date was. It’s one of those details that tends to vary from production to production (Patrick arrives on October 1st in the Auntie Mame movie), and everyone was having a hard time mapping out a time line if he arrived on October 1st. I don’t remember WHY that seemed too condensed (it means that everything from “It’s Today” leading up to Vera describing what will be “The Man in the Moon” takes place in the span of 29 days), but regardless an October 1st arrival date was not acceptable. Whilst wearing my dramaturg hat I realized that Patrick’s arrival date in the NOVEL was July first, and so that’s what we went with.
