This is a most delightful song called “Missing” from the new musical IRON CURTAIN. This is a show that, in it’s year of development, keeps popping up in my life. I’ve currently been helping coordinate auditions for a new production of it, and whenever anyone sang a cut of this I would find myself disappointed that the 32-bar audition cut ended.
The show, set in the 1950s, is about 2 hapless American musical theater writers who are kidnapped by the KGB to write propaganda musicals in Soviet Russia. This song is sung by Shirley, the longtime girlfriend of curmudgeon composer. Music is by Stephen Weiner, and the (perfect) lyric is by Pete Mills. It’s performed by Maria Couch.
