A rough, not-very-good recording of the arrangement I finished today. I’m going to try to get a clearer one at some point, but not tonight. Anyways, here you go. If you want to see the score, you can here

performance Claire Cox (Fredrika), Judi Dench (Desiree), Siân Phillips (Mme Armfeldt), Stephen Hanley, Ernestina Quarcoo, Di Botcher, Tim Godwin, Morag McLaren

This stirring rendition of “The Glamorous Life” not features a definitive Judi Dench but also incorporates the lovely film version of the song (which at this point is probably best known from Audra’s flawless rendition*).  This cast recording has inexplicably been out of print for years, and if there weren’t an internet, that would be a tragedy.

*in 2006 Audra sang a concert at Carnegie Hall, which I was fortunate enough to see (from the rear-rear mezz, which is essentially in the Bronx).  The promotional copy for the concert mentioned that McDonald would sing something from Night Music (this was before she sang it in her televised concerts, at least as far as I knew) and I TOTALLY CALLED that she was going to sing “Glamorous Life”, which made her eventual performance of that song all the more rapturous and lovely.
