“Roll Up the Ribbons” from I Do! I Do! (1996 Off Broadway Revival)
music Harvey Schmidt lyric Tom Jones
performance David Garrison, Karen Ziemba

Writing to you live from a Comfort Inn in Clarion, PA (with all of my belongings in a van in the parking lot)!
pack up the present
look to the future
one thing i know is true
the best day of all
is the day that is on its way
waiting for you
Garrison and Ziemba aren’t really a match for Preston and Martin, and the OBC’s full orchestrations are replaced by two pianos, but this recording gains points for completeness—where the pianos take the musical theme and really soar with it in a surprisingly satisfying way.

Best to you all in 2013.
This is the song that would play at the end of the last episode of the sitcom about my life.

“I Thank You for Your Love” as heard on A Broadway Christmas
music Tom Jones lyric Harvey Schmidt
performance Laurie Beechman

This abosulutely lovely song—given a moving and effective performance by Beechman—is from an obscure, pre-Fantasticks, Jones/Schmidt collaboration called The Mummer’s Play (about which I can find very little information). This song—and this performance—should be better known.
An iconic image was cut into 25 pieces. Each piece will be a post’s album image. I will entertain all guesses as to what the image might be!
