i pulled it from a maiden in a tower

All day.

i saw first preview, and the ramp that Jesus (spoiler alert) rides over the audience wasn’t working, so I got to hear this number 3 times as they kept starting over again hoping the ramp would work.  The backup girls pretty visibly hated their life by the 3rd go around, but I was having a blast!

Love a good 2-for-1.  Holy Week + Overtures?  SOLD!  Though I liked the current revival more than many, it seems, I still believe Jewison’s film is the best method of viewing JCS.

Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) Hosanna

I can’t believe I forgot to share this yesterday.  Apologies.

If a musical were to be judged by the amount of time its characters spent gazing meaningfully into the audience, this production would be trumps.

Mr. Isherwood writes a review that’s actually good! (A Glitzy Execution in a Religious Revival | Jesus Christ Superstar at the Neil Simon Theater)

I particularly like “Lisa Shriver’s choreography, which is a liability from start to finish and could be transplanted wholesale into a Britney Spears concert.”  I liked parts of the ‘ography, but they DID do “single ladies” in the temple which i would have complained about had the guys in leather not been, you know, hot.

I also wouldn’t use the word “glitzy” to describe the production so much as “slick”.  Take away the video (and please, do, take away the video), and it’s downright spartan.
